We are used to believing that sugar is life. For many of us, giving up candy is a heresy. We believe that the worst thing about diabetes is that you can't eat candy.
A few years ago, I couldn't imagine giving up sugar. It was all for me!
My whole world revolved around its sweet taste and the pleasure it brought. He firmly believed that without sugar, life was not worth it.
Later, I realized that something was wrong, that it depended too much on candy. I did a thorough investigation and stopped eating sugar forever
Here are the main reasons why.
dependence
Sugar is highly addictive. Your body loves it because of all the easy-to-consume calories it provides.
Sugar is hyperpalable, and that is exactly what our brain wants and rewards. In the distant past, it was a good strategy. Food was scarce and taking advantage of a rich source of energy meant surviving in a hostile environment.
Today it means obesity and diabetes, but we cannot explain it to our subconscious.
In addition, the sweet taste is a sign of food that you can eat safely, and we have learned it from the birth of our mother's breast milk. True, it is also a bit sweet due to the lactose it contains.
In short, sugar offers a killer combo that is hard to resist, connecting you once and for all.
obesity
Addiction is not the only danger of sugar. This substance is also responsible for the obesity epidemic that we have in our hands.
Did you know that by 2050, obese people will make up the majority of the population? Well, sugar is responsible for it.
It does it in a rather complicated way. First, it makes your body more resistant to insulin. This makes your pancreas work harder and produces more insulin every time you eat, storing much of the incoming calories in your fat cells.
Second, extra insulin blocks the hormone called "leptin" that tells your brain that you have eaten enough. It makes you eat more because your body thinks it is starving. Keep in mind that this is partially true, since an important part of your meal has become fat.
Sugar also causes visceral fat, the most dangerous that exists. There is a term "T.O.F.I.", which means "thin on the outside, fat on the inside." This is a very serious condition because fatty organs can fail at any time.
Diabetes and cancer
Finally, sugar causes a deadly disease. The first is diabetes. As you know, sugar makes your body more resistant to insulin. When you abuse sugar long enough, it becomes chronic.
When this happens, your body loses the ability to process incoming food. Since most of the foods you eat are converted to blood sugar before being processed, high insulin resistance means certain death. This is the point where people need insulin injections just to stay alive.
Societies tell us that diabetes is inherited, and that is partly true. Type 1 diabetes is caused by genes, but it is the absolute minority of cases. Most are type 2, which can be acquired perfectly if you do not control your sugar consumption.
The second threat associated with sugar is cancer. Many studies have shown that high sugar levels can lead to the development of cancer cells. This makes perfect sense, since sugar is an excellent nutrient. Having many of them in your bloodstream gives your enemy the energy to survive and prosper.
Think about it when you eat that extra chocolate bar. Are you sure you want to try your luck? Especially when you consider many other health problems that sugar causes directly or indirectly.
I am sure that in the future we will know more about the deadly effects of sugar on our health. What you should do now is avoid sugar as much as possible, because companies have turned it into a weapon against us.
Avoid all sugary drinks, avoid processed foods as much as possible and replace sweets with fruits. At first it will be difficult, but your body will thank you later.
